Did you know that the only zoo in the entire state of Connecticut is the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport? This zoo is dedicated to species conservation and research and features over 300 animals on display including bears, tigers, and even condors. Some of the endangered and threatened species the zoo protects are: Amur (Siberian) tiger, Andean condor, Ocelot, Red wolf, Andean (spectacled) bear, Maned wolf, and the Golden lion tamarin.
The Beardsley Zoo sits on 35 acres with an indoor rain forest, a children’s zoo, and a carousel. It is open 362 days a year from 9am to 4pm (they only close for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day). Regular adult admission costs $12, children and seniors cost $10, and kids under the age of 3 are free.
One of the newest animals on display at the zoo is the snowy owl. Make sure you don’t miss your opportunity to see these majestic creatures, revered by many cultures around the world as a living symbol of the beauty and power of the arctic. (You might also recognize the snowy owl as Hedwig, from the Harry Potter films!)
