The Sculpture Garden is a popular destination for both residents and tourists alike. It has been around for more than 22 years and has seen more than 7.2 million visitors. In 1988 the Walker and the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board collaborated to turn what was originally just a playing field into the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. In 1992 it was expanded from 7.5 to 11 acres, making it the largest urban sculpture garden in the US at the time. There are more than 40 works on permanent view in the garden and additional temporary installations keep the garden experience continually fresh and changing.
Unfortunately, the park is in need of some restoration since areas have began to deteriorate and some of the plant life has ended its natural life cycle. The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, along with the support of the Walker Art Center, is currently pursuing state bonding to repair and renovate this unique state asset. You can take action and join the cause by visitinghttp://garden.walkerart.org/bonding today.
Please help preserve the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden for many more generations to enjoy!
