The print publishing industry has been in crisis for awhile now. As many readers trade in bound books in favor of newer eReader options, it has never been harder to be a bookseller--even Borders closed all of its locations! As more and more booksellers turn from traditional brick and mortars to digital options bookstores around the country are shuttering their windows and locking their doors for good. Fortunately there are still a lot of fantastic bookstores left carrying the torch, and Tattered Cover in Denver, Colorado is one of them.

Tattered Cover is one of the largest independent bookstores in the whole country. Open since 1971, Tattered Cover has been supplying Colorado book lovers with titles for over four decades. Though their store has also suffered from the economic downturn that all booksellers have faced in recent years--they've downsized a few of their spaces to single floor stores instead of the multi-level, three floor spaces they once occupied--Tattered Cover isn't short on great book options for readers of any genre. From fresh independent novels to well-worn classics, all of Tattered Cover's locations are well equipped to help you stock up on enough reading material for years!
Tattered Cover offers what major booksellers never could: charm and character. With a ton of cozy seats and an in-store cafe, Tattered Cover features many spots to relax with a tasty cup of coffee and good book. In addition to regular titles, Tattered Cover also sells some first edition copies, which are perfect as gifts for the voracious reader in your life. They also host frequent signings and readings by popular and independent authors, something else that the major sellers like Borders rarely did.
In fact, the demise of book store giants has helped independent book stores like Tattered Cover. Visitors are more willing to support local businesses and tend to be willing to pay a little extra when they can take home their book that day, especially after relaxing in a comfortable chair with a coffee to get through the first couple of chapters. If that experience happens to occur after the book was signed in person by the author? Well, some things Amazon and Borders just can't compete with.
