With so many things to see and do in Sacramento, the California state capitol, it might be hard to narrow down your options. Though Sacramento offers several “grown-up” places to visit including the State Capitol Building and an array of museums, it’s actually a pretty kid-friendly place to visit too. We’ve listed a few of our favorite spots to check out if you’re traveling with hard-to-please little ones.
Fairytale Town
This two and a half acre park offers children an outdoor museum and play park that brings fairy-tales and nursery rhymes to life. The park opened in 1959 and has been delighting children ever since. It is locate in William Land Park in Sacramento, and has over 25 bright and colorful play sets to give young children a backdrop to act out their favorite stories and exercise their minds and bodies imaginatively. The park also features a variety of farm animals, a collection of colorful children's gardens, and two magical stages where daily performances are given.
The Sacramento Zoo
The Sacramento Zoo opened in 1927 and is now home to over 140 native, exotic and endangered species of animals. It is also one of over 200 accredited institutions of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The zoo is located near the corner of Land Park Drive and Sutterville Road in Land Park, and is managed entirely by the non-profit Sacramento Zoological Society and provides an educational and recreational resource to the Sacramento Region. There is also a Kid’s World at the zoo offering games and activities, online features to learn more about the animals, and also a great venue for throwing birthday parties.
Funderland Park
Funderland is a small-scale, old-fashioned amusement park that is perfect for children ages 2 - 12. They feature several child-sized rides including the Dragon Roller Coaster, Funderland Train, and many more. The best thing about this park is that admission is always free, and each ride only requires 1 ticket per person.
Raging Waters
What better place to take the kids during summer than a water park? And Raging Waters has something for the whole family. The park features over 25 exciting water attractions, slides, pools and children’s activities. You can choose between thrill rides like Splashdown and Hurricane, or chill out in the Calypso Cooler Lazy River. Kids will love Hooks Lagoon, a 5-story water kingdom with water slides, secret tubes and hundreds of water activities. The Park is located at Cal Expo off of Capital City Freeway at Exposition Boulevard.
