If you are planning to visit Anaheim, California in the near future, there is a very good chance we know exactly where you plan on spending your time while you’re there. Anaheim is located in Orange County and is home to the “happiest place on earth,” Disneyland.
Disneyland opened on July 18, 1955, under the direct supervision of Walt Disney, himself. Today the park, as well as the Disney brand, have expanded greatly. Just a few of the huge renovations and expansions included the addition of New Orleans Square in 1966, Bear Country (now known as Critter Country) in 1972, and Mickey's Toontown in 1993. Perhaps the largest expansion was when Disney California Adventure Park was built on the site of Disneyland's original parking lot and opened in 2001.
When the park first opened to the public in 1955, there was a nominal main gate admission price and each ride or attraction cost an additional fee between 10¢ and 35¢. Though prices have gone up quite a bit since then, with a day’s admission to Disneyland costing $80, people still flock to the park from all over the world.
Besides the park expanding its rides and attractions, the Disney Resort has also improved upon the entertainment and shows within the parks as well. One of the newest being “World of Color,” a nighttime water spectacular that weaves water, color, fire and light into one amazing show. More than 1,000 jets of water are used to form incredible shapes in time to the music as Disney characters appear in the mist.
