How Does It Get There? Shipping Large and Unusual Things
We see some strange and interesting items come through our doors. Folks bring the things they don't know how to ship, or the things that need extra care and attention during the crating process. Here are some examples of unusual items we've packed and shipped, and a peek inside the amazing crating process we use to ensure all items arrive in perfect condition.
Industrial Plastic
That's a ton of plastic wrap! This photo shows industrial stretch plastic that was heading from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Snohornish, Washington. The shipment weighed 1,910 pounds (almost an actual ton!) and measured 11.5 feet by 2.5 feet by 2.75 feet. A perfect example of the type of collaboration between Navis Pack & Ship and local businesses.
A 300 year old model ship.
This beauty came through our Navis Pack & Ship Philadelphia location. Obviously as an antique, the model ship was very delicate and had fine pieces that couldn't be touched, not even by padding! The crate was built around the dimensions of the ship, leaving enough room for padding, and reinforced to withstand shipment to Virginia. The most delicate parts of the ship aren't touching anything, and the base is secured so if the crate tips the ship will remain in place and undamaged.
As you can see, both of these very different items were seated in wood crates that perfetly fit their measurements. This is how we operate at Navis Pack & Ship. Rather than try to fit everything in a box, and just sizing up and stuffing with padding when necessary, we build individual crates for each treasure (or commercial shipment) that comes through our doors. While this may seem expensive, consider the alternative: if an item is not properly packaged there's a higher chance that it will arrive damaged, and certain goods (like antiques, art, and one-of-a-kind creations) are irreplaceable, so the damage is permanent and costly. We also keep our costs competitive by partnering with local shipping companies that need to fill extra space. But at the end of the day, our packing and shipping services focus on quality rather than quantity or speed, and this is how we earn lifelong customers. Whether you're selling antiques that absolutely must arrive in top condition, are an artist who needs to get delicate works to your customers across the country (or world), or are sending commercial equipment far away, the experts at any Navis Pack & Ship location are there to help you make sure your items arrive in perfect condition.
