In 1911, the Mayowood Estate in Rochester, Minnesota was created by co-founder of the Mayo Clinic, Charles H. Mayo; 2011 marks the Mayowood Mansion’s 100th anniversary.
The 38-room historic mansion is surrounded by beautiful, ornamental gardens. In 1965, the Mayo family donated the home and ten acres to the Olmsted County Historical Society. Two years later, it was declared a Minnesota Historic Site, and by 1970, the mansion was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
The mansion is still operated by the Society today and is run as a historic museum. It has been maintained as it was when Dr. and Mrs. Charles Mayo resided there and tells about the lives of the famous medical family.
