Dragon Con Parade in Atlanta
Labor Day weekend is just days away, and if you still haven't found a way to celebrate, we've rounded up another batch of Labor Day art festivals and events around the country.
Those in Phoenix, Arizona are in luck: the city is booming with Labor Day events for everyone! Every artist knows that nature is the original work of art - and the AZ Salt River Heroes Litter Zero celebrates the natural beauty of the Lower Salt River. Participants can beat the heat by hopping into an inner tube and having a floating picnic in the Tonto National Forest. The event is aimed at keeping the mountain-stream waters of the river clean, encouraging everyone to bag their picnic trash in Tommy Tuber litter bags. The floating picnic takes place from Saturday August 31st through Monday September 2nd from 9am to 3pm. This event is all about celebrating nature's art, and is a Take Pride in America award winner. It's $17 to rent your tube for the day and who knows - you might even run into the folks from Navis Pack & Ship Phoenix out there!
The City of Brotherly Love has plenty scheduled for this Labor Day weekend! Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia is celebrating with music during the Made in America Music Festival. Headliners such as Beyonce, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix, Queens of the Stone Age, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and more. A two-day pass is $168.70, but single day tickets are also available. In only its second year, the Made in America Music Festival is one of Philadelphia's biggest events, and a limited number of tickets are available. This event is for ages 21+, though, and there will be food and beer gardens near all stages. If you're looking for a more family-friendly event for Labor Day, a number of art museums have special exhibits, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art is pay-what-you-choose on Sunday September 1st, and the Woodmere Art Museum is free on Monday September 2nd! Peter and the gang at Navis Pack & Ship Philadelphia would be happy to meet with you and help you pack and ship your Labor Day goods.
A Labor Day events guide would hardly be complete without mentioning out nation's capitol. Washington DC is getting in on the action with a number of art festivals and events this weekend. Several music festivals, celebrating everything from orchestra to blues to drums, will be in the various DC neighborhoods. There is also the Glen Echo Park Art Show and Irish Festivities from Friday August 31st to Monday September 2nd. You can buy art (specialties include sculpture, paintings, ceramics, glass and jewelry) by more than 150 local artists and enjoy Irish music and dance in the park. Of course, there's always the free Labor Day Concert at the US Capitol that starts at 8pm Sunday September 1st - bring the family and a picnic dinner and enjoy the music. There are nearby Navis Pack & Ship locations to help you ship your purchases home or to others, including our Baltimore location, which serves the DC region.
Atlanta, Georgia is where more than 175 artists from 16 states gather to display and sell their art this Labor Day weekend. Visitors can purchase paintings, photography, pottery, graphics, sculptures, jewelry and much more at Art in the Park. There's even a Children's Art Alley for the little ones, and a Citrus Magic Pet Rest for the furry ones! This Labor Day art festival is on Saturday August 31st in Glover Park (Marietta Square). If something a little more... interactive... is on your agenda, Dragon Con might just be the place to be. With big name stars (think William Shatner and Adam Savage, along with a host of TV characters), a dragon parade through Atlanta, workshops, walk of fame, comic artist alley and art show, Dragon Con is not to be missed. The con is from Friday August 30th through Monday September 2nd and tickets are $30-$130 depending on how many days you go, making it a total deal compared to many other cons of this size! Don't forget that Navis Pack & Ship Atlanta is nearby to help you ship your Dragon Con merchandise and artworks anywhere in the world.
