Your young adult is out of the house and trying to survive as a college student. On one end, you’d like to step back and see how they fly. On the other end, you want to continue taking care of them. Why not combine the two and provide some parental support from afar? Sending a care package is the way to go!
Care packages are perfect if your college student is short on food, short on daily necessities, needs some study fuel, or perhaps simply for a little pick-me-up. Here are some ideas for care package arrangements.
The “Cleanliness” Care Package:
Not only is it a nice gesture, it’s a way to make sure your college student hasn’t forgotten about body hygiene while they’re away. Items for this can include lotion, shampoo, conditioner, razors, and toothpaste. For girls, throw in some nail polish, lip-gloss, or mascara. For boys, add styling gel or shaving cream.
The “Medicine Cabinet” Care Package:
Spending so much time in classrooms and around people, there is no doubt students get sick often. That’s why having back-up medicine is key. Medicine to include can be for allergies, cold/flu, nighttime, or pain relief. Other useful items include cough drops or Emergen-C. Besides medication, throw in a mini emergency kit that includes Band-Aids, sanitary wipes, gauzes, etc.
The “Laundry” Care Package:
Now, your young adult gets the pleasure of doing laundry on his or her own. Still, a little help is probably needed. In this care package, send laundry detergent, dryer sheets, a lint roller, stain remover, a mini sewing kit, and quarters – lots of quarters.
The “Study” Care Package:
Time to support the reason your child is away: education. For those late-night cram sessions, energy and focus are hard to maintain. Some foods you can pack for the studying student are nuts, granola bars, jerky, raisins and popcorn. Extra pens/pencils, paper and perhaps a gift card to Starbucks are nice additions as well!
The “Just Because” Care Package:
When you have no better reason to send one, a “just because” package is still greatly appreciated. For girls, include things such as gossip magazines, an iTunes gift card, beauty supplies, a piece of jewelry, and some chocolate. For boys, include things such as home baked goods, a gift card to Subway, new pairs of socks and underwear, tickets to a sporting event, and DVDS or videogames.
In all of the above packages, remember to include a card or handwritten letter to express your love and wish your college student luck!
