Auctions are the best - whether they are focused on art, cars, vacations, or some seriously impressive personal items. More than hanging out with friends or engaging with the community, auctions are really opportunities for us to get out there and bet our bottom dollar on some thing we really want and, quite possibly, get it.  But first, here are some things you NEED to know.

Everything You Need to Know About Auctions

How does an auction work?

An auction takes place when someone wants to sell some type of property at a specific time and place. Actions are a good way to fundraise for a non-profit or other organization, but they're also a great venue to nab valuable items below market price, depending on the type of auction. Usually, one would require a bidder number or some other identifiable item to participate. You should always inquire about the details from the auctioneer beforehand - there are also different types of auctions, including online auctions, that have different standards of operation. The auction will start out with a base price, usually the lowest possible, and will continually increase once bidders start to make their bets. The last and highest bid will secure the item.

What if you live too far to attend an auction?

Have no fear, in this day and age you can always try to place an absentee bid. You should call the auctioneer and inquire about the bidding process; many of them have different ground rules. Generally, however, they will be more than happy to assist you. More so, you should always go the extra mile and do some research on the actual auctioneer. They should be licensed, trustworthy, and willing to provide you with a list of references. It’s your money on the line, be sure it goes to the proper people.

How much should you bid?

This really depends on the item and how much you want it. Be careful, however, not to get too enthusiastic and bid too much too quickly. You should know what your limit is and once you reach it, don’t surpass it! Items cannot be removed before you are able to pay for them, so make sure you are prepared to put down what you bet.

As you will probably end up with an interesting item that you clearly intended to have, you can always rely on Navis Pack & Ship to get it to you – safe and sound.
