Founded in 1847, the capital of Utah was originally named “Great Salt Lake City” after the nearby “Great Salt Lake” lake. It wasn’t until 1868 that “great” was dropped from the city’s name. Mostly known for its Mormon routes, Salt Lake City has much more to offer for people of all backgrounds.
The Art Institute of Salt Lake City is offering an affordable Summer Studio in June. High school sophomores, juniors and seniors can have the chance to participate in workshops at the Institute to see what it will be like to be a student there. Inspiring young artists from an early age, the Art Institure hosts a wide variety of experiences that will surely appeal to a large number of Salt Lake City students. At the end of the workshops, students present their portfolios like they would as official Art Institute students.
The Arts Council of Salt Lake City offers residents a rich summer of concerts that can be enjoyed by all. Their Brown Bag Concert Series is a lunch hour event. Public parks and plazas in August are presented for free for anyone looking for a little entertainment with their lunch. BYOL! The Twilight Concert Series is a weekly summer evening event that brings in musicians from around the world. Guests can enjoy a festival-like night with food, drinks and crafts.
The Tour of Utah is a top international cycling event just after the Tour of France. For six days in August, some of the world’s top teams and individuals participate in the popular event attracting visitors worldwide. The beauty of the mountains and land that Utah has to offer provides to be an unforgettable event for all. With free admission to spectators, this opportunity is not to be missed.
