Looking for new, talented artists in your local communities can be difficult if you’re new to the area or you don’t have your finger on the pulse of the artistic community. We want to make that easier by finding some great local artists worth investigating. The Rochester Art Center is a fantastic find if you haven’t already added it to your pocketbook of local art exhibitions. Some talented artists based locally showcase their work here, including painter, photographers, and performance artists.
Tim Eitel is an up and coming painter from Leonberg, Germany and his first US exhibition is right here in Rochester, MN! He’s been lauded by some in the art industry as “one of the best young painters working today,” and he shows incredible promise for advancement in the future. The exhibition of his work showing at the Rochester Art Center displays about 30 works, ranging in completion date from 2002 to 2012. One of the cool things about the Tim Eitel exhibition is that it’s not just a collection of paintings- they’re holding several events that are worth attending! There's the Artist Talk and an Exhibition Catalog, and there's also a Special Edition Print Release Reception to go to.
Another German artist, Jeanne Faust is well known for her cinematographic accomplishments. Her films and photographs are shot in the same style, depicting everyday subject matter through a cinematic point of view. Her work reflects cinematographic themes, and has been widely praised. Faust studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg in the 1990s and worked for several years before being nominated for the National Gallery Prize for Young Art in Berlin in 2007. She has shown her work before at a variety of different locations, including the Museum Ludwig in Cologne and the Andersen S Contemporary in Copenhagen.Faust’s work has been lauded by artists for the way that her photographs retain a distinctly cinematic feel and texture, despite Faust’s shooting and artistic process. Some of her work is also composed of short films that play on visual perception and dissolve from image to image.
Both exhibits run from January 26 to April 28. The center offers a free "art for lunch" program on Thursdays, where visitors bring their own bagged lunches to enjoy before a walking tour, and then lets you explore all the exhibits all day, for free.
Navis Pack & Ship can safely transport framed photographs, sculptures, and paintings of all sizes, so don't be afraid to fall in love with art.
