Exploring the Cultural Centers of San Diego; as a major city on the west coast, there are plenty of interesting museums you can check out.
What are some of the best museums in San Diego?
Well, that really depends on what you’re looking for. As a major city on the west coast, there are plenty of interesting museums you can check out. If you like art, you may enjoy the San Diego Museum of Art or the Mingei Museum. Both feature interesting exhibits, although the former is more about traditional mediums and the latter explores art in a contemporary context – marketing, design, and so on.
Where should I take the kids?
Good question. If your kids are interested in technology and space, how about taking them to the San Diego Air and Space Museum? Ripley’s Believe It or Not is holding a one-of-a-kind exhibition there this summer. It also has a theater playing all types of kid-friendly films that explore aviation, space travel, and more. The San Diego Natural History Museum is another great place for kids and adults alike. For instance, this summer you can take your younglings to check out the Real Pirates exhibition, but there are also exhibitions dedicated to whale watching and the natural world. Of course, there is also the Reubin H. Fleet Science Center, which has a whole separate type of vibe, with classes in science being offered to kids and short 3D films! It is most definitely worthy of your time.
The Maritime Museum of San Diego is another place you can definitely take the kids, never mind that you’ll probably find it amazingly interesting yourselves. With a ton of information about open waters and the tech we put in them, it’s going to be an eye opening experience.
How about something completely different?
Rather than exploring natural history or space, you can explore us – meaning human achievement – at the San Diego Museum of Man. As “the only anthropology museum in the region”, it is truly a one of a kind experience. Helping people understand each other is one of the most, interestingly enough, difficult obstacles we face as a species, therefore, exploring each other’s contributions to society makes perfect sense.
Many of these museums are located in Balboa Park, San Diego's cultural center. You can save money by getting an Explorer Pass (available for individuals, couples, and families) that allows you to visit almost all of the museums in Balboa Park for one day, several days, or a whole year!
Navis Pack and Ship San Diego is always available to help you ship valuable items purchased at any of these museums or at other one-of-a-kind shops throughout the city. Conveniently located in the Sports Arena section of San Diego, it is right in the middle of all of its happening museums.
