The lady behind Art Biz Blog, Alyson B Stanfield, brings you a "The First Step to Curating Your Art." Here, she discusses how hard it is even getting to this point, and then looking at your art objectively (impossible), and working with someone else on your art - as a business (nearly impossible). This is the first in a series on art curation and will be invaluable material for any artist trying to make a living (or supplement a living) with art.

There's been a lot of talk in the art, financial, and governmental worlds of Detroit and its art collection, and what to do with the city and the art now that there's bankruptcy. Many are suggesting Detroit sell off its art, while others are saying it would be a death sentence for the city. During Detroits collapse a few years back, artists went to the city to transform it and make a new place out of the auto city. Detroit also had an existing collection of pieces at the Detroit Institute of Art, and that is the center of this debate. You can read more about how important art is to Detroit and the future of the city at Art F City, and if you live in Detroit they offer a few tips on making your voice heard.

Two stories out of a Bloomberg article today: More people from China have been bidding on Any Warhol art lately, and that's made Sotheby's and Christie's want to sell directly to China. Warhol made trips to China, which influenced some of his works, and these are what the auctioneers will be bringing to the country. Some of the works range from $8,000 to $56,000, and are some of Warhol's less pricey works. The second story is of a Philadelphia woman who bought a necklace by Alexander Calder for $15 at a flea market, only to discover later it's worth $200,000 to $300,000.

The Getty Museum has made access to images of its collection available - for free! Now, through their Open Content Program, users can view and download a high quality image from the Getty Search Gateway. A description of how you intend to use the image is suggested or required, and this will help the museum learn what the public is using these images for and will influence what sorts of images to make available down the road.
