Pickup and Delivery for Shipping Art
Our philosophy on shipping art at Navis is that our job ends only when the artwork arrives as its
destination safely, NOT when it leaves our facility.
Need to ship paintings? Shipping paintings, like shipping any piece of fine art or an antique, requires
knowledge. Whether your painting is framed, has glass, is an oil, or a delicate watercolor, the Navis Pack
&
Ship professionals have the know-how to pack and ship it safely. If you need to ship heavy sculpture, fine porcelain,
antique paintings, or precious family heirlooms, we can help. The artwork packaging experts at Navis will pickup and
transport your artwork to and from museums, art and antique galleries, auction houses, restorers, private residences,
offices, or warehouses.
Our delivery options include:
- Door-to-door
- Dock-to-dock (for commercial deliveries)
- Port-to-port or port-to-door (for international deliveries)
Specialty Art Packaging
The difference between "damaged" and "damage free" for shipping art lies in the proprietary
packaging services the Navis Pack & Ship organization provides.
Each piece of artwork is an original in our business and at Navis we take into consideration the unique vulnerabilities, fragility, dimensions, and cubic volume of the art or object itself.
Does it have glass? Is it an oil painting? Does it have a frame?
Depending on the artwork itself, our artwork packaging specialists will use high quality, industry approved materials to construct customized boxes and custom-built crates to ensure protection for your artwork or valuables.
If your artwork warrants construction of a crate, we design our crates from the ground up and build them to address the specific needs of the artwork at hand. Our crates can be designed with specialty ISMP-15 treated wood to meet the import/export compliance regulations mandated by many countries across the world to ensure a pest free container.
More important than the exterior of the crate is the structural integrity of the interior to ensure safety in transit. For instance, Navis uses glassine to protect the oil on a canvas, glass mask to protect the glass on artwork, double strength cardboard boxes and double
layers of foam to prevent any slippage or breakage. Navis offers a variety of crating options including corner lock crates, fine art crates, and
slat crates.
Fine Art Shipping
Navis uses specialized, trusted carriers to ship your artwork.
Navis only works with carriers with whom we have trusted and long lasting relationships and
have proven themselves to adhere to the high standards of service Navis expects.
Navis offers the following options for art shipping:
- Air - Your artwork will be shipped next day, or two day or economy (three to five days).
- Freight - Your artwork will be crated, palletized or boxed and sent via a specialized truck carrier.
- Ocean - Your artwork will be crated or containerized and sent via an ocean vessel.
Art Shipping
No matter how carefully Navis packages your artwork, you should always purchase insurance.
Although many customers worry about insuring their artwork against theft, few consider that damages can occur. In 2005 for instance, over 25% of of all claims received by AXA Art Insurance (the world's largest insurer of fine art)
involved works of art damaged in transit, versus 15% for theft or on-site burglary. Navis provides insurance for shipping or
transport of all Navis packaged artwork, including high value transit insurance.
Navis provides art packaging and shipping for items like these:
- Framed & unframed paintings, drawings and photography
- Small to large sculptures of marble, wood, metal, stone or glass
- Ceramics & pottery
- Art glass
- Architectural models
- Figurines & collectibles
- Antiques and movie props
- Museum exhibitions
- Historic artifacts of any size
